Authorities have charged a Eutawville man with murder after his wife was found dead of a gunshot wound earlier this week.
Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office staff assistant Keisa Peterson said 48-year-old Carl Clyde Mecke Jr. is charged with murder in connection with his wife's death.
Mecke's wife, 53-year-old Dorothy Mecke, was found dead at the couple's Broughton Lane home Tuesday after Carl Mecke called 911 to tell authorities he was threatening suicide, according to a sheriff's office incident report.
Along with EMS, deputies responded to the home where they found an unresponsive Mecke on the floor and clad in Homer Simpson pajamas.
Emergency Medical Services personnel noticed a hand-written note on the couch which stated in part that Mecke's "wife had a knife and he took it from her and she got a gun and shot herself," the report indicates.
Investigators say they then discovered Dorothy Mecke's body in a bedroom where she may have been for days.
No firearm has been located as of yet.
Interim Sheriff Barbara Walters said this week that investigators have spoken with the subject, who said, "he and his wife, Dorothy, were arguing when she fatally shot herself. In a handwritten note, Mr. Mecke indicated he cleaned her up and put her in the bed."
