CLINTON, Ark. -- A Thornton man convicted of killing his ex-wife has escaped from jail in Arkansas.
Van Buren County deputies said Rodney Lee Jones, 49, escaped Wednesday, just a few weeks after he was sentenced to life without parole.
Orzona Fischer, 33, was gunned down in September 2008 in the home she shared with her new husband and the three children she had with Jones. Days after killing her, Jones was arrested in his new home in Thornton, Colo., and extradited to Arkansas.
Authorities have said Fischer was shot as she cut her new husband's hair. She was killed when a shot fired through a window hit her in the back.
Lt. Wesley Potts of the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Jones escaped during the “pre-dawn hours." Police said Jones escaped through a pipeline that leads from the jail and he cut the fence.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
