KELSEYVILLE -- The Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to an apparent murder-suicide at a residence on Highway 175 near Wildcat Road in Kelseyville late Sunday night.
A man later identified as 57-year-old William Daniel Marty called the LCSO from a cell phone around 11:10 p.m. Sunday, saying he had shot his wife and planned on shooting himself, Capt. James Bauman, of the LCSO, said in a written statement Monday.
Kelseyville Fire District personnel responded to the Marty's residence first, awaiting the arrival of LCSO deputies, according to Bauman. Several deputy units then arrived at the scene and attempted to contact Marty by phone and public address system.
After receiving no answer, deputies approached the house and, through a window, saw a man and woman lying and bleeding atop a bed, Bauman said.
The deputies entered the house and secured the scene, discovering a rifle next to Marty, Bauman said.
Rescue personnel pronounced the woman, later identified as 54-year-old Linda Macy Okell-Marty, dead at the scene, according to Bauman.
Marty showed "signs of life" and was taken to St. Helena Hospital Clearlake, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, Bauman said.
"It appears at this time that William Marty did in fact turn a gun on himself after calling 9-1-1 to report he had just shot his wife," Bauman said.
Officers are investigating the incident as an apparent murder-suicide and have yet to establish a motive,
