A Northern Kentucky man will likely be extradited from Hamilton County to Campbell county this week to face charges in the murder of his ex-girlfriend. 25 year old Tai Pinkelton died early Sunday morning inside her Dayton, KY apartment. Her murder was likely witnessed by her five year old daughter and one month old son.

Officers in Dayton say they received a call reporting Pinkelton's death around 1:45 a.m. Sunday from Hansan's Market, a nearby convenience store. They went to the home on Clay Street, where they found Pinkelton's body. She'd been stabbed multiple times. Her children were nearby-awake, but unharmed.

Pinkelton's ex-boyfriend and the father of her infant son surrendered to police later on Sunday in Hamilton County. Dayton Police would not confirm the suspect's name, but Maurice Powell was booked at the Hamilton County Justice Center on Sunday. He's being held on a homicide warrant out of Dayton, Ky. Police also say he likely made the call from the convenience store and they are now looking at security video of the store to try and determine a timeline of events.

Neighbors say Powell used to live at the home with Pinkelton and Pinkelton's sister Tia told Local 12 he is the father of her son, and that the two had a violent relationship. Tai's sister also said she'd kicked Maurice out of the apartment several times and no longer wanted him in her life, but likely was trying to allow Powell to be part of her son's upbringing.

Tia says the children are now in foster care but she hopes to gain custody and raise her sister's children as her own.
