EAST CHICAGO | An Indianapolis man was charged Tuesday with strangling an East Chicago woman whose son was sleeping nearby, police said.
Tishwanda Reynolds, 19, of the 3400 block of Lincoln Street, was pronounced dead at 10:28 a.m. Monday in the St. Catherine Hospital emergency room, a Lake County coroner's office spokesman said.
Police said she was strangled in her bedroom by a former boyfriend while her 7-month-old son slept nearby Monday morning.
Marcus Matthew II, 22, was charged with murder Tuesday afternoon. He admitted to strangling Reynolds after waking up, "playing and rubbing" her and then being told to "go back to sleep," court documents state.
Reynold's cause of death was listed as apparent trauma to the neck suffered in an apparent homicide.
Matthew told police he strangled her with his hands and a belt, police said.
The child in the room at the time of Reynolds' death was not Matthew's son, East Chicago police Lt. John Nava said.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
