WOODBURY — A Franklinville man who allegedly strangled and killed another man in Virginia in October was arrested Monday night at his Dutch Mill Road home.
Scott P. Campbell, 38, was charged by police in Virginia with second-degree homicide, for killing Bryan Riffe, who authorities said Campbell had a relationship with that began online.
Campbell was arrested without incident by state police from New Jersey and Virginia and Franklin Township. Officers also executed a search warrant for Campbell’s house and car.
Riffe, of Bluefield, Va. was found dead in an abandoned commercial building in Rocky Gap VA on Oct. 30. The cause of death was ruled to be asphyxia caused by manual strangulation. It is believed he was killed Oct. 16 after Riffe’s parents dropped him off at a fast food restaurant. Computer forensics and cell phone records led authorities to Campbell.
In a Superior Court hearing today in Woodbury, Campbell waived extradition and agreed to return to Virginia to face the charges. Authorities are now transporting him to that state.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
