WABASH, Ind. -- A jury has convicted a Wabash County man of murder in the death of his wife whose throat was crushed by a weight bar.
The Marion Chronicle-Tribune reported the jury deliberated eight hours before finding Scott Pattison of La Fontaine guilty in the July 2009 death of Lisa Pattison, 36.
Pattison told authorities he found his wife in their home about 40 miles southwest of Fort Wayne with a weight bar across her throat. A coroner ruled her death a homicide.
Wabash County Prosecutor William Hartley Jr. said the defendant was having an affair, going through a divorce and stood to profit from a $450,000 life insurance policy on his wife.
The defense argued Pattison and his wife were reconciling when she died.
A sentencing date was not set.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
