FLORENCE, Ariz. -- Pinal County Sheriff's deputies were looking for a man suspected of shooting his ex-wife in the parking lot of a Florence church, but Wednesday afternoon Dominic Donatella was found dead.
Dominic Donatella, 39, died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. His vehicle was located along Interstate 8 near milepost 122, and his body was found roughly one mile from that spot.
Donatella's ex-wife, Jamie Gallegos, 35, was found dead in the parking lot of Christ the Victor Church just before 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities said a 911 call had reported shots fired in the church parking lot, followed by a second report that a woman had been shot.
Gallegos had taken her sons, ages 7 and 10, to karate practice at the church, authorities said.
They said Donatella was arrested last May 28 on suspicion of domestic violence and disorderly conduct. The outcome of that case was not available.
