HARNETT COUNTY (WTVD) -- A Harnett County man has been charged with killing his ex-wife's on-again, off-again boyfriend.
Authorities arrested 57-year-old Roy Earl Rogers in connection with 56-year-old Vincent Stephens' death.
Homicide investigators say Rogers allegedly called his ex-wife early Friday morning saying he had done something very bad.
Stephens' body was found around 1:30 a.m. inside his mobile home on Josie Williams Road in Erwin after a deputy was asked to make a safety check.
When deputies couldn't get a response, they kicked the door in and found Stephens.
Harnett County Sheriff Larry Rollins would not say what exactly happened inside the mobile home in rural Harnett County, only that it was bad.
"It was a very violent scene is what has been described to me," he said. "Well I can't go into details at this time, but it was a very violent death it appears."
A neighbor says deputies banged on his door around 2 a.m. wanting to know if he had seen or heard anything. The neighbor said all he could tell investigators was that Stephens was friendly and quite.
The sheriff says there was problems between the two men and they had fought over Rodger's ex-wife several times.
"The central to everything about this is the ex-wife," Rollins said.
Rogers is charged with first degree murder. He is currently being held in the Harnett County Jail with no bond.
