AVONDALE, Ariz. – A man wanted in connection to his wife’s stabbing death six years ago has been arrested in Mexico.
Attorney General Terry Goddard says 59-year-old Miguel Rodriguez Alvarado, who was indicted for murder six years ago, is now in custody.
A petition for extradition to have Alvarado brought to Arizona to face prosecution has been prepared by Goddard’s office.
Alvarado allegedly stabbed his wife to death at their Avondale home on May 10, 2004. They allegedly had a history of domestic abuse and he was upset 52-year-old Mary Carmen Alvarado was planning to file for divorce.
Mary Carmen was found dead in a bathtub by her son. Miguel initially told law enforcement that his wife had committed suicide but an autopsy determined she died as a result of homicide.
Terry Goddard says, “This case is an excellent example of collaboration among local, state, federal and Mexican law enforcement.”
The suspect was apprehended after the U.S. Marshals Service worked with Mexican federal police to locate Alvarado. He is being held in Mexico awaiting extradition.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
