Hamtramck, MI: Husband charged with killing mother in Hamtramck home

A Hamtramck man was formally charged Tuesday with killing his wife.

Rudy Rascewski, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in Janice Grace's death.

Grieving the loss of her only child, Sandra June Young says she can’t believer her daughter, Janice, was brutally killed last week in her own home on Gallagher.

“She would have been 30 years old June 11, if she had not been murdered,” Young said. “She loved life. She danced, she sang and she was happy.”

Young said her daughter was killed by her husband in front of the couple’s 4-year-old twin boys.

“They said, ‘Daddy hit mama. Mama has a boo boo in her stomach and mama’s sleeping,’ not knowing mama is dead,” Young said.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner said the mother had been beaten and strangled.

Young said her daughter was abused by Rascewski for years but was too scared to speak out, fearing the children could be taken back to their native country: Poland.

“I just want women out there that are being beaten, that are afraid to come forward to know that the end of the beating is what I’m facing right now, burying,” she said. “I would give up my life right now to bring my daughter back.”
