A husband and wife were found dead in their Capitol Heights area home early Tuesday in an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said.
The couple’s niece came to their house in the 1000 block of Nyanga Avenue just after 1 a.m. and found them fatally wounded, said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a Prince George’s County police spokesman. It appeared that the man had shot his wife and then himself, Copeland said.
Police identified the couple as Dennis Bernard Mace, 53, and Marilyn Yvette Mace, 52. Assistant Prince George’s Police Chief Kevin Davis said the two were recently married and “having some domestic issues,” although he said it was unclear what those issues were.
Family members and friends sobbed and hugged one another outside the couple’s modest home Tuesday afternoon. Approached by a reporter, a man said they were too grief-stricken to be interviewed.
The case is the 18th slaying in Prince George's County this year, not including one incident that is being investigated as a justified homicide. At this time last year, Prince George’s had 29 homicides, including two deemed justified.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
