Clearwater, FL: Husband, wife dead in Clearwater murder-suicide

A man in Clearwater shot and killed his wife before taking his own life, police said.

The bodies of Robert and Irene Polukoff, both in their late 40s, were found early this morning in their garage at 2532 Sweetgum Way.

The couple's adult son, whose name was not released, heard the shots and called 911 at 6:44 a.m., according to Clearwater police.

Robert and Irene Polukoff were going through a divorce, police said.

Although there is no record of physical violence between the two, they had been in contact with police several times since July, according to police.

On July 18, 2011, Robert Polukoff went to a police substation to discuss a "delicate situation." On Aug. 10, police records indicate the couple's two sons were fighting. And on Oct. 6, police received two calls involving non-physical arguments between the husband and wife.

On Feb. 22, a money dispute resulted in two calls to police. Irene Polukoff called saying her husband had taken money and would not give it back; police also responded to a call regarding a civil matter in which the wife tried to take money from her husband.
