Police were called to the house at 11:42 p.m. Tuesday night to a report of a stabbing, but responding officers found 32-year-old Ashantai Finch was already dead when they arrived. Police arrested her live-in boyfriend, 19-year-old Dymond Rene Hayden, in connection with the slaying.
"She was not happy, she did not want to be in the relationship any longer," said Wanda Curry, a friend of Finch. "She tried to play like she wasn't (scared), but I believe she was. I had her last night, she's gone today."
While the police were called to the house for a stabbing, the Hennepin County medical examiner said Finch died of a gunshot wound.
The address of Tuesday night's murder is coincidentally next door to direct relatives of Monday morning's triple murder victims.
DeLois Brown, 59, was found shot to death around 6:30 a.m. Monday morning inside her home on the 8100 block of College Park Drive, where she also operated Visions and Butterflies Child Care. Also killed were Brown's parents -- 81-year-old Clover Bolden and 83-year-old James Bolden -- who had recently moved into her home from St. Louis to be closer to family.
Police are still looking for the shooter in that case. Investigators gave a vague description of the suspect, but said he was last seen leaving the area on a BMX bike. A $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
