Cumberland County, NC: Cumberland Co. murder-suicide investigated

A Cumberland County murder-suicide has two families wondering what happened.

Just after 5 a.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a shooting at a home on Hollins Street. They found the body of 23-year-old Allisha Cherry in a bedroom. She was murdered.

The home belonged to the mother of Cherry's boyfriend, Brandon Coleman, who was missing.

A short time later, deputies responded to a report of a shooting on a bridge over Interstate 95. Deputies found Coleman in the roadway dead from a self-inflicted wound.

"It was just a short distance away from the home where he lived and the body of the female was found," said Debbie Tanna with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Coleman's family was too distraught to talk to ABC11. Allisha Cherry's family was devastated too.

"We loved her. So, it's really a shock to the family and we are just going to be prayerful, and pray for her mom, and my dad, her sisters," said Cherry's sister, Terry Clark. "We are just going to try and make it through."

So far, authorities have not commented on a motive.
