WALTERBORO, S.C. — A Georgia man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing a South Carolina woman and her son.
Multiple media outlets reported 29-year-old Denver Jordan Simmons of Flintstone, Ga., pleaded guilty Wednesday in Walterboro and was sentenced to two consecutive life prison terms.
Prosecutors say Simmons killed 45-year-old Sheila Faye Dodd of Round O and her 13-year-old son, William, in 2007.
Prosecutor Duffie Stone says Simmons shot Dodd, took here car and debit card and went to lunch, then picked up her son and brought him home and shot him. Investigators say Simmons apparently tried to burn the bodies.
Stone says Simmons knew the victims but authorities don't know why they were killed.
Stone agreed not to pursue a death sentence in exchange for the guilty pleas.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
