A California man has been jailed in connection with the shooting death of an airman stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.
Staff Sgt. Brian M. Carragher died in a local hospital after he suffered gunshot wounds in front of his California City home Saturday. He served as a military working dog handler with the 95th Security Forces Squadron.
Carragher was visiting with Timothy Aaron Atkins’ ex-girlfriend before the fatal shooting, according to California City Police Chief Steve Colerick.
Atkins went to the house and demanded to speak with his ex-girlfriend, a friend of Carragher’s, the police chief said. He shot Carragher with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol after Carragher told him to leave.
Atkins fled the scene and was later arrested by police. His arraignment is set for Tuesday afternoon.
A phone number for Atkins couldn’t be found Monday, and Colerick did not know of an attorney representing him.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
