Alex Ward, 52, was found dead Aug. 14 after he was set on fire and doused with gasoline or kerosene in the couple's home off of Miss. 302 in unincorporated DeSoto County.
His wife, Brenda Ward, 55, died Aug. 23 at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis after she received injuries to her lungs in the house fire authorities said was arson at the home.
"The evidence has led us to conclude that there were only two parties involved in the case and both parties are deceased," said Chief Deputy Frank Rainey. "It was a domestic violence situation, and since both parties involved are dead that's all we are prepared to say at this time. You can read between the lines."
Rainey said Alex Ward's death was ruled a homicide and his wife's death has been ruled accidental.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
