LONG BEACH - A Mission Viejo man was convicted today of murdering his girlfriend, whose body was discovered in her Long Beach apartment last year.
The Long Beach Superior Court jury deliberated less than two hours before finding 22-year-old Jonathan Huynh guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of Kate Su Yi.
The 20-year-old Cal State Long Beach student's body was found on April 2, 2009, inside a closet in her apartment in the 700 block of Bellflower Boulevard.
Yi -- who was breaking up with Huynh -- was strangled and stabbed three times in the back of the head and neck on March 31, 2009, according to Shiara Davila-Morales of the District Attorney's Office.
Huynh, who was arrested by Long Beach police on April 4, 2009, is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 20 to 26 years to life in state prison.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
