Blood drops can be seen in front of this house on Richey Avenue in the Perry North neighborhood.
Pittsburgh police plan to charge a North Side man in the stabbing death of his wife early this morning at their house.

Homicide detectives are applying for an arrest warrant for Joseph Davis, 54, on charges of homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say Mr. Davis fatally stabbed his wife, Victoria, 53, and wounded a 56-year-old woman who also lived in the residence in the 100 block of Richey Avenue in the city's Perry North section.

A 9-year-old boy who the Davises were raising was at the home during the incident but was uninjured.

Both the injured woman and Mr. Davis, who was found in the upstairs hallway bleeding from apparent stab wounds, were taken to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition.

Mrs. Davis was pronounced dead at 1:49 a.m. in her second-floor bedroom, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.

An autopsy is underway.

Police were called around 1:36 a.m. by a neighbor across the street from the Davises after the injured woman knocked on her door asking for help, authorities said.

Officers found the woman curled up on the neighbor's front porch with several stab wounds.

Detectives are working to uncover the motive behind the stabbings, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide squad at 412-323-7161. Callers can remain anonymous.
