A Kyle man has been charged in the murder of his wife, the Hays County sheriff’s office said Thursday.
The victim, 55-year-old Mildred Zedler, was found by emergency workers early Wednesday at a home in the 500 block of Palomino Road in Kyle needing urgent medical care, sheriff’s officials said Thursday.
Sheriff’s deputies said they had responded to the home shortly before 1 a.m. following a 911 “medical assist” call for Zedler. From there, San Marcos and Hays County emergency medical services workers took Zedler to Seton Medical Center Hays for treatment.
However, Zedler was pronounced dead at the Seton hospital shortly after 1:30 a.m., officials said. Medical workers at the hospital contacted sheriff’s officials to advise of a possible suspicious death.
In a subsequent autopsy examination, it was determined the cause of death was homicide, officials said.
Officials said Zedler’s husband, 55-year-old John Fredrick Zedler, was charged with murder and taken into custody.
John Zedler was in custody Thursday morning at the Hays County jail with bail set at $435,000, officials said.
According to court records,in 2004 he was charged with assault after hitting his wife in the head and throwing a rock at her leg. John Zedler pleaded no contest and was sentenced to six months of probation.
There were limited details regarding John Zedler’s role in the incident or a motive in his wife’s death.
“This investigation is still ongoing,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement.
