American Township, OH: Lima man kills self after fatally shooting wife, daughter

LIMA, Ohio — A Lima man shot and killed his estranged wife and 20-year-old daughter early today in American Township before turning the gun on himself, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s office.

It is the first homicide of the year in the township.

At 4 a.m., Randy Glenn, 45, entered the home of his estranged wife, Carlin Glenn, 46, at 9 Beaumont Place. The couple’s two children, Andrea, 20, and a son, 17, were spending the night at the house Wednesday night. Authorities said Mr. Glenn shot his daughter in her mother’s home, and Ms. Glenn in the driveway of 8 Beaumont Place, where she had fled to ask for help. Mr. Glenn then returned to his wife’s house, where he committed suicide.

All three victims were pronounced dead on the scene, said Chief Deputy Jim Everett, of the sheriff’s office. The victims’ bodies were transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s office, which is set to perform autopsies Friday.

The couple’s son, whose name was not released, was home at the time of the shootings but escaped unharmed. He was transported to St. Rita’s Medical Center by the American Township Fire Department.

The sheriff’s office had responded to domestic disputes at the home before. Chief Everett said the killings were likely the result of an argument.

The couple’s daughter was a 2010 graduate of Shawnee High School, where she was an accomplished track and field athlete. She was currently enrolled at Tiffin University, where she also was a member of the women’s track and field team.

While Chief Everett described the double homicide-suicide as an unusual crime anywhere, Lynn Mohler, an American Township trustee, said the crime was especially surprising in their normally quiet community.

“It’s devastating, a very sad affair,” Mr. Mohler said. “Our community being tight-knit, a real community, this is a very unusual situation.”
