A 51-year-old man is in jail after a night of drinking ended in his wife's death, deputies say.
Anthony Kay Miller and Karen Jordan Miller, 50, got into an argument Saturday night while he was driving his 2010 Chevrolet Silverado southbound near the couple's home on the 18900 block of Shay.
The woman jumped out of the passenger side while the truck was in motion. She was then run over by the dually tires of the truck and died at the scene, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Anthony Miller was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Deputy Thomas Gilliland said it was not clear whether further charges would be filed against Miller in his wife's death. Miller does not have a criminal history in Harris County, records show.
"It's horrible," Gilliland said. "She jumped out and we don't know why."
Neighbors reported that after the incident they saw the woman lying in the middle of the street, bleeding. The police soon arrived on the scene and she was pronounced dead.
Marin Gonzalez, a neighbor who lives about two houses down from the couple, was among those gathered at the scene Saturday night.
"We were right in the middle of it. ... This threw everybody for a loop," Gonzalez said. "We are all completely shocked."
He said Jordan Miller and her first husband moved to the neighborhood several years ago. Her first spouse died in an accident about a few years ago, he said. He said Jordan Miller has three grown children.
Gonzalez said he had previously heard the couple fighting and had seen police respond to their home previously.
"Why would someone jump out of a car?" he said. "A lot of us can't understand it."
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
