Columbus, OH: Responding Ohio officer stabbed, kills attacker.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A police officer in Ohio who was stabbed responding to a domestic violence call shot and killed his attacker.

The incident occurred before dawn Saturday in Columbus.

The officer, whose name was not released, was stabbed twice in the garage of a home. He was treated at a hospital for wounds in his shoulders and released.

Police spokesman Sgt. Richard Weiner says 51-year-old Derick Alexander was shot multiple times and died at the scene. He says officers gave multiple orders to surrender.

According to the Columbus Dispatch (, the situation developed when officers were called to a hospital to investigate an assault. A woman told police her husband had beaten her.
