COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A police officer in Ohio who was stabbed responding to a domestic violence call shot and killed his attacker.
The incident occurred before dawn Saturday in Columbus.
The officer, whose name was not released, was stabbed twice in the garage of a home. He was treated at a hospital for wounds in his shoulders and released.
Police spokesman Sgt. Richard Weiner says 51-year-old Derick Alexander was shot multiple times and died at the scene. He says officers gave multiple orders to surrender.
According to the Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/Op2jmw), the situation developed when officers were called to a hospital to investigate an assault. A woman told police her husband had beaten her.
