Federal Way, WA: Man admits killing girlfriend in Federal Way

Federal Way police say a man admitted killing his girlfriend Friday night.

Police say the man entered a neighbor’s home in a trailer park at 3001 S. 288th Street at about 11:15 p.m.

"He asked if he could use our phone. He said that his wife just got out of the shower, and someone tried to kill her," said the neighbor.

Police say the man (Later identified as Kenneth Mace) eventually admitted that he killed Melinda O'Meara. Also, O'Meara was not his wife, but she reportedly was his girlfriend.

The neighbor called 911 and flagged down a security officer who was driving around the area. The officer detained the man, then forced entry into his home and found the victim, 20-year-old Melinda O’Meara, inside.

Police arrived and arrested the 29-year-old man for investigation of homicide. He’s been booked into the King County Jail.

"I've known him a long time. It's shocking," said Marianne Scott as she stood in front of a now boarded up home.

In the neighborhood where police officers spent several hours investigating the young woman's death residents like Tyler Rivera, cannot help but think about the victim.

"There's all that life ahead of them that they could be living," said Rivera.

Records show police had previous contact with the man, but no domestic violence incidents between him and the woman.
