LAS CRUCES - A Mesilla Park woman has been jailed for allegedly stabbing her husband to death in May after an incriminating recording was uncovered last week.
The district attorney's office on Friday charged Kemberlee J. Guffey with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence after newly discovered 911 tapes allegedly revealed her "chilling" statements - made before a dispatcher had picked up the phone, said District Attorney Amy Orlando.
Guffey called 911 the morning of May 31 to report her husband, 42-year-old Padraic "Pad" Michael Guffey, a pilot and the owner of R.L. Guffey Drilling in Las Cruces, "had fallen and got a puncture to his chest," according to court documents filed Friday.
But a recording, which begins when the line is still ringing, paints a different picture, Orlando says.
"You hear her say, 'It's in the car, please don't send me to the police,' 'please say you fell, promise me,'" Orlando said. "He screams, 'Get me an ambulance!' and he's maybe saying 'help' or 'ambulance' and she says 'I am, I'm calling now.'" When the line is answered, Kemberlee Guffey reportedly says, "Please hurry, I stabbed my husband - he got hurt, he's bleeding," court documents state.
By the time emergency responders arrived at 2860 McDowell Place, Kemberlee Guffey already had cleaning supplies out to clean up her husband's blood and seemed to be "hovering" as her husband told responders he had fallen on a branch, Orlando said.
Responders even had to tell Mesilla Marshals to "keep Mrs. Guffey from interfering with their duties," according to court documents. Padraic Guffey was transported to Memorial Medical Center, but was pronounced dead two hours later, court documents state. When law enforcement went back to the home that afternoon, "all known evidence and blood had been either cleaned or removed from the scene" and officers couldn't find what had punctured Padraic Guffey's heart.
Afterward, Kemberlee Guffey admitted to investigators that she and her husband, who have one child together, had been fighting over accusations of infidelity and "had pushed it up a notch and crossed lines they never should" have, according to court documents. However, the Office of the Medical Investigator's autopsy was unable to determine the manner of Padraic Guffey's death, and no weapon was found.
Kemberlee Guffey is being held with no bond at the Do a Ana County Detention Center.

I have known Ms Guffey for several years and have come to learn that she had several affairs etc. She put her husband Padrick thru hell with her actions over the years, she was truly the evil of the two. I really hope when her day in court comes that the jury will see thru the good looks
etc. She is cold and calculating & was looking for a way out of her marriage of 20 years plus . Kemberlee thinks she is Gods gift to men & has hurt many along the way , I have first hand experience/ knowledge
