CORPUS CHRISTI - The man who police say found his girlfriend stabbed to death inside their North Beach condo in September spoke to our Melissa Schroeder this afternoon in his first interview since Patricia Duling's murder. So far, no one has been named as a suspect or arrested in the case.
Leslie Moul told us he was in court today for allegedly assaulting Duling back in July. He did not hold back during the interview. Instead he shared his thoughts on what he believes happened to his girlfriend on September 12th. Moul believes her murder is related to her addiction to crack cocaine.
He says he's already provided information to police about a who he feels may be responsible for Duling's murder, either a man who stole his truck or a drug dealer Duling owed money to.
Moul says back on July 4th he only broke up a fight between Duling and another woman. He claims he did not assault anyone, only that the two women were fighting over payment for crack cocaine. He says Duling bailed him out of jail the day after the incident and apologized for his arrest.
But a couple months later Duling turned up dead at a very bloody crime scene in her home. The couple's rocky relationship has some of Duling's family members believing that Moul may have been involved in her death.
"Yeah, her family, I can understand why they would think I was involved in it I can," Moul told us.
"But you can stand here now and say you know nothing at all.. you weren't involved in it?" we asked.
"God knows I didn't have anything to do with it. I went to work that morning she packed my lunch she made me a tuna fish sandwich and kissed me goodbye," said Moul.
Moul says after he came home from work he found Duling's body inside their condo. He says the rooms were dark, but he noticed something was missing in the bedroom that caught his attention.
"The bedding was gone I thought it was her laying under the blanket and I drug the blanket back and it was two pillows saturated in blood so I knew then something bad had happened," Moul told us.
He says he then checked the bathroom door only to find it was locked from the inside. So he called police and they found Duling's body inside.
"The officer came out and I asked him is she in there? And he said yes she is and then I asked is she alive and he said 'no she isn't,'" said Moul.
The boyfriend believes Duling's addiction to crack cocaine finally caught up with her. He says he feels certain one of the people who sold her the drugs also killed her, because she wouldn't pay up.
Moul is expected back in court next week concerning the July 4th assault charge. So far no trial date has been set.
He tells us since Duling's murder he has lost his job and is now living in a local motel.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
