A Bridgewater Township man shot his wife and then killed himself at their home in the 13000 block of Austin Road, according to police.
Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office spokesman Derrick Jackson said police went to the home after being alerted that a shooting had just happened. The 47-year-old victim had told police her 64-year-old husband had shot her and then turned the gun on himself, Jackson said.
Deputies and troopers from the Michigan State Police confirmed the man had died from a gunshot wound, Jackson said. The woman was transported by the Huron Valley Ambulance to the University of Michigan Hospital. The woman was originally listed as in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable condition, Jackson said.
The Manchester Enterprise has reported that the man was Brent Fairfield and he had shot his wife, Jennifer, in the chest and shoulder.
Jackson said the reason for the shooting is still unknown at this point, but the Enterprise reported the Fairfields had been arguing earlier in the day.
The investigation into the shooting is on-going, Jackson said.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
