Monroe, LA: Monroe man jumps from bridge and dies

A man reportedly distraught over threats by his baby mama, killed himself Tuesday by jumping off a river bridge.

Questions are still lingering and family members are still shocked over the tragic suicidal death Marcus Delon White, 24,a Monroe National Guard soldier Tuesday.

Caldwell Parish Sherriff's Department have reported that White, apparently killed himself Tuesday when he stopped his car and jumped from U.S. 165 bridge at Columbia.

Officials said, "He stopped the car and he got out. I don't think he told her he was going to jump," referring to the woman riding in the car with him. She identified herself to police as White's fiance, but family members deny the relationship.

He was enroute to Camp Beauregard in Alexandria where he worked four days each week.

Loretta white, the victim's mother, said he had been distraught over arguments between he and the woman she described as his "baby mama."

"He came to me about two weeks ago and complained that his baby mama was threathening him," said White.

She said White complained that the mother of two of his children, Tanesha Elliott, was upset because he had another lover, Kandace Paige. White said Elliott reportedly threatened to accuse him of molesting his two children or anything else necessary to keep him from leaving her.

White said her son, an Iraq veteran, had already been under stress after returning from the war. The baby mama drama complicated it more, Elliott said.

She said he was with Elliott Tuesday because it was the only way he could see his two and three old children.

Elliott does not know what happened in the car, but after White jumped out of the car, Elliott called for help and passersby tried to hold him, but he broke free and jumped just before deputies arrived.

He jumped from the bridge at 3:10 p.m. and his body was recovered from the river at 4:45 p.m. using sonar equipped boats.

Funeral services for White will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Monroe. A wake will be held Friday from 2-6 p.m. at McFarland's Funeral Home.

Survivors include: Mother, Loretta White; father, Fred DeWayne Williams; Fiance', Kandace Paige; three children: Paige McKenzie White (3 months), Jewell Elliott (2) and Braxton Elliott (3); one brother Kenneth Ray White, Sr.
