FORT WORTH, Texas - A Fort Worth man is charged in the murder of his ex-girlfriend and the attempted murder of her mother after a double shooting Monday afternoon.
According to a police report, Eugene Dwight Esters, 46, slept in his car overnight outside the La Plaza apartment complex in the 200 block of Shady Lane Drive off because he wanted to see his children, who lived with his ex in the apartment the couple used to share.
Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. Esters had an argument with that former girlfriend, 33-year-old Jennifer Johnson, the report says.
Johnson's mother, 53-year-old Della Johnson, was also at the complex because she had come to help her daughter with car problems.
The police report says Esters shot both women and fled. The daughter died at the scene, and mother Della was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Police later arrested Esters. There is no word whether the couple's children witnessed anything.
