A Phoenix woman whose marriage was marked by domestic violence was found dead in her home New Year's Day, police said.
Her husband, James Johnson, 68, was booked on second-degree murder charges after being interviewed by police.
The daughter and son-in-law of Venus Ross, 56, became concerned when they had not seen or heard from Ross since Christmas, police said.
"The daughter and son-in-law felt something was suspicious when they came to check on her and the victim's husband was uncooperative with them," police said.
They contacted police, who got into the home and located the victim, dead, with apparent trauma to her body, police said.
Johnson was taken in for questioning but was uncooperative with investigators. The couple had been married about two years and had a history of domestic violence, police said.
