ROCKWOOD — Two women were found dead of gunshot wounds at a Roane County residence this afternoon in what authorities said appears to be a murder-suicide.
A family member who came by the house at 323 Eblen Street discovered the bodies and called police about 2:45 p.m. today, said Rockwood Police Chief Bill Stinnett.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is currently processing the crime scene, he said.
Neither victim has been publicly identified yet, although one appeared to be in her mid- to late-20s and the other in her mid-30s, Stinnett said. Both were residents in the home.
One victim was found with a single gunshot to her head, while the other appears to have suffered several gunshot wounds, the police chief said.
“It appears to be a murder-suicide,” Stinnett said.
One resident apparently had been in the process of moving out of the home, he added.
Officers responded to a report of vandalism at the address last month after a vehicle at the home was found to have had its tires slashed.
