JONESBORO, AR - The Craighead County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest of a Brookland man who police say killed his live-in girlfriend.
According to Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann, Tommy Joe Baker was arrested without incident Sunday afternoon in a field near Paul's Switch, which is located at the intersection of Craighead County Road 398/328.
According to McCann, 21-year old Kandi Hanley was found beaten early Sunday morning. McCann told Region 8 News that Baker beat his girlfriend to death on Stevens Street in Brookland.
Police were dispatched to the home at around 7:30am Sunday morning, where they found the body of an unidentified woman. Hanley's name was released late Sunday afternoon.
According to McCann, Baker stole a truck in Brookland and bailed out of the truck somewhere in north Jonesboro. After that, he got a ride from a friend and stopped in a field. McCann said Couch's Helicopters out of Light helped find Baker in the field.
McCann said the investigation into the death is still ongoing.
