A St. Charles Parish middle school teacher was one of two people shot and killed Thursday night in an apparent domestic dispute in Destrehan.
According to St. Charles Sheriff's deputies, Fenisha Charles, 38, a seventh-grade science teacher at R. K. Smith Middle School in Luling and her husband, Carroll Charles, Jr., 40, a construction contractor, were found shot to death in their home around 7:30 p.m.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes said the investigation is on-going and that he didn't know who shot whom.
Yoes said the Sheriff's Office received a call around 7:44 p.m. about the shooting in a house on Trepagnier Drive, near Voisin Drive which is in the Ormond Estates subdivision.
Meanwhile, school officials had counselors available at Smith to talk with students and staff regarding the shooting.
School district spokeswoman Rochelle Cancienne-Touchard said the students and faculty were "pulling together like a family."
"It was a little rough this morning, but they are doing well," she said.
Cancienne-Touchard said Fenisha Charles was well-loved and respected at the school.
"The principal described her as always being positive and upbeat. It's a tremendous loss."
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
