Anderson, NC: Suspect In Pregnant Anderson Woman's Murder To Court Friday

Updated January 21, 5:50 a.m.

Antonio Rucker has an initial appearance scheduled in Anderson County on Friday morning.

Anderson Police said Rucker strangled his pregnant girlfriend January 18th. She leaves behind two children. The magistrate judge will read his rights and the charges against him, which include murder and death to a child in utero. A circuit court judge will determine if Rucker should be granted bond at a hearing not yet set.

Keith Antonio Rucker, accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend, arrived at the Anderson City Detention Center Thursday evening. A hearing in his case is scheduled for Friday morning.

Updated Jan. 20, 12:49 p.m.:

Keith Antonio Rucker, accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend, is being extradited to the Anderson City Detention Center this afternoon, Sergeant Tony Tilley, of the Anderson PD says.

A hearing for Rucker is set for 8 a.m. Friday.

Because the charges Rucker faces, murder and death to a child in utero, carry the possibility of life in prison, bond will have to be set by a Circuit Court judge, Tilley says.

Rucker will, however, face the Municipal Judge Friday to be advised of his rights and obligations.

The family and friends of Kacy Roberson want her death to send a message to women in abusive relationships.

“Girls…get out,” said family friend Mary Bryant. “If you’re in an abusive relationship, leave. So your families and children don’t have to go through this.”

Bryant was a friend of Kacy’s, a 22 year old police say was killed by her boyfriend, Keith Antonio Rucker.

They say he strangled woman – pregnant with his child – to death late Tuesday night at her apartment.

He turned himself into police in Lavonia, GA., Wednesday morning and is charged with murder and death to a child in utero.

Lavonia Police found a car police say Rucker drove abandoned behind an elementary school before the suspect turned himself in.

The two had been arguing since November, but says Roberson never filed for any kind of protection because she “didn’t think it would go this far,” family members said.

Kacy’s parents went looking for their daughter, already a mother of two, when her daycare called them and said she didn’t pick up her children.

They found her body at the Hanover Ridge Apartment on West Franklin Street just after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“The grandparents, her (Kacy’s) parents came here to the home, and they found the door ajar. It appears that it possibly has been kicked open, and she was found deceased inside,” Anderson Police Sgt. Tony Tilley said.

Kacy’s family says Kacy had told them her relationship with Rucker was abusive, but she never went for help.

Kacy’s stepfather and mother are keeping her 3-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son.
