MARTINEZ -- A Bay Point woman was charged Wednesday with murder with use of a knife for fatally stabbing her live-in boyfriend, a homicide prosecutor said.
Shanay Smith, 30, is being jailed in lieu of $1.05 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
Smith is accused of using a kitchen knife to stab 49-year-old Aaron Compton Jr. once in the chest about 2 a.m. Jan. 14 during an argument at their home in the 2900 block of Mary Ann Lane.
The knife struck Compton's heart, killing him, deputy district attorney John Cope said. Smith's two children were home at the time of the stabbing but did not witness it.
The Sheriff's Office said Smith called 911 to report a medical emergency, and later admitted to stabbing.
Cope said there had been previous reports of domestic violence involving the couple in which each partner accused the other of being the perpetrator.
He asks anyone with information surrounding the couple's history to contact the Contra Costa County Sheriff's investigations unit at 925-313-2630.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
