NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police continue to search for two gunmen allegedly responsible for shooting and killing a young mother and injuring four others Sunday night.
Family members said it all started with a jealous ex and ended with a hail of bullets and the death of an innocent woman who, police said, was not the intended target.
The family said the convicted felon, David Johnson, would not take well to his ex-girlfriend finding a new boyfriend, but it would be the sister of his ex that would pay with her life, Sunday. Monday night, two of the four who were injured, remained hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Family members said it was the younger brother of David Johnson, Charles Johnson, that would fire the fatal bullets from an AK-47. "His brother started shooting at the house, and his brother just straight up aimed the gun at my sister and killed her," said Tisha Williams.
The death of 22-year-old Luvionia Williams would leave her 1-year-old son motherless. "Now he's gonna have no mother," added Tisha.
"He was just shooting at the car as it was driving, killed my sister, man," said 28-year-old Shenika Williams. She also said Johnson was her ex, and she was the intended target.
The 22-year-old was getting ready to graduate, her family said. She would die during the rain of bullets, while four others were injured. The shooting occurred at 11:52 p.m., at a home on 92nd Street and Northwest 20th Avenue, in Northwest Miami-Dade.
Shenika Williams said the two brothers came to the home motivated by the elder brother's jealous rage. "My boyfriend was the one who did the shooting, him and his brother," she said. "He didn't take the fact that me and him were not together anymore, and when he saw us pulling up in the car, he started shooting in the car. He shot the car up."
Witnesses said the elder brother, a convicted felon with a long list of criminal offenses, who was released from prison a year ago, would take aim at the car carrying Shenika Williams with a handgun. He would shoot 26-year-old David Walker, the man, Shenika said, he was convinced she was now dating. "He shot into the window, directly at the people that was in the car," said Felisia Williams, another sister of the deceased young mother.
The woman who, the family said, was the intended target said it was by the grace of God she survived unscathed. "I had to duck down on the ground," Shenika said. "I don't know. It was God."
She then said it was Charles Johnson who would fire indiscriminately at the house with the assault rifle. Besides Luvionia's fatal wounds, he would also hit her boyfriend, 22-year-old Suava Dorsett, and his 17-year-old brother Tafari Dorsett. The fourth injured victim was a 14-year-old girl, according to police. She was hit by flying debris and would be treated on the scene.
The mother, meanwhile, would lie dying just feet away from her little son. Rescue crews transported her to JMH, where doctors would pronouce the 22-year-old dead.
Police would retrieve more than 40 casings in all. Entire chunks of plaster blew off the house and a neighbor's car was left with bullet holes. Still, the damage would not compare to the loss of an innocent life. "My sister has a baby, everything going for her," said Shenika Williams. "This wasn't even for her. My sister's gone. I ain't gonna see my sister no more."
