KEIZER, Ore. -- A Keizer man was arrested on a murder charge after police found his wife's body at the couple's home, officers say.
Keizer police say Peter Zielinski, 39, went to the police station and told officers at about 7 a.m. Wednesday that his wife needed an ambulance at their home in the 800 block of Nightingale Court Northeast.
Officers say they went to the home and found Lisa Zielinski, 38, dead at the scene. There was no one else in the home when police arrived.
An autopsy revealed she died of a gunshot wound to the brain, according to the state medical examiner.
The Zielinskis have two young children, investigators say, and they are being cared for by family members.
Lisa Zielinski worked for a local radio station and was an active member of the Keizer Chamber of Commerce. She was also active at her church.
"Lisa was just a wonderful person. She was everyone's friend. She was motivating, inspirational to me and many others," said Christine Dieker, of the Keizer Chamber of Commerce. "She was always so cheerful."
The Rev. Garry Zerr, of the St. Edward's Catholic Church, said Zielinski's death will be difficult for the community to handle.
"We're all very devastated and don't understand and loved her very much," he said.
The cause of death will be released after an autopsy is complete.
No information about the motive has been released, but investigators described the incident as domestic violence.
Police say Peter Zielinski was arrested and charged with one count of murder, but additional charges could be filed.
Anyone with information about the victim or suspect is asked to call Detective Ben Howden at 503-390-3713 Ext. 3525.
