EL PASO, Texas -- KFOX has learned new information about the man accused in a murder-suicide.
Shortly after noon on Sunday, El Paso police said 64-year-old Juan Hernandez shot and killed 52-year-old Maria De La Paz Perales. It happened at Perales’s home in the 5600 block of Melody.
Police tell KFOX Hernandez worked as a farmer in La Union,N.M. KFOX located neighbors near Conejo Street who said his daughter lives in the area.
They did not want to be identified but said that Hernandez was a quiet man who kept to himself and he was very family oriented. The neighbors said they were shocked that the shooting happened.
Investigators said Hernandez showed up at Perales’s home several minutes before the shooting.
They believe the two had some sort of interaction in the back of the home and that Hernandez had been courting Perales for the past year.
Investigators said Hernandez shot Perales in the head. KFOX learned Monday that weapon sued was a 357 revolver.
Family and friends of Perales were not able to be reached for comment.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
