A Houma woman is recovering in a New Orleans hospital after her husband shot her in the mouth, then took his own life, according to Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois.
First responders found Larry Blanchard dead on the floor of the couple's bedroom after his wife Nicole called 911, and used the phone's keypad to communicate with operators.
"She was texting, and what she did after we finally made contact with her by phone, she would answer with yes or no questions, one beep for yes and two for no," Sheriff Bourgeois told ABC26 News.
Bourgeois says Nicole Blanchard is expected to recover after her surgery Wednesday afternoon.
The couple owned the Body Elite Fitness Company in Houma.
The Sheriff says the couple had no history of domestic violence, and the motive for the attempted murder/suicide is still not clear. The investigation will continue
