CHARTER OAK - Los Angeles County Coroner officials released the names of the man and woman who were discovered dead inside a Charter Oak home in what investigators are calling a murder-suicide.
Guillermo Gamboa, 41, of Los Angeles and Jacqueline Molina, 33, of Covina were discovered dead Monday by deputies at 5:19 p.m. inside a home in the 5000 block of Jenifer Avenue, authorities said.

Detectives believe Gamboa murdered Molina and then committed suicide.

The man suffered a fatal gunshot wound, Lt. Don Slawson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

A handgun was found near Gamboa's body, he said.

Molina's cause of death remained a mystery, deputies said.

"At this point we are going to have to wait for the autopsy report," Slawson said, "There are no outside signs of trauma."

A friend called 9-1-1 when he received a call from Gamboa saying he "was sorry for what he had done and for his friend to please call the police," Slawson said.

When deputies arrived, they discovered the two bodies, he said.

The man and woman were living at the residence together and were in a relationship, authorities said.

Neighbors did not hear arguing leading up to the deaths, deputies said.

Detectives are continuing to interview family Tuesday in hopes of determining a motive for

the murder-suicide, Slawson said.

Clay, NY: Ex-boyfriend charged in death of Mercyhurst College student

and GERRY WEISS
CLAY, N.Y. -- A former boyfriend has been charged with the murder of Mercyhurst College student Jenni-Lyn Watson, whose body was found near a park in central New York on Saturday.

A prosecutor said her body had been dumped "like garbage."

Watson, a 20-year-old dance major, was a junior at Mercyhurst. She had gone to her parents' home for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Watson had been missing since Nov. 19, a day after she arrived at the house. Investigators said she likely was killed in the home and then taken to a wooded area near Clay Central Park.

"We do not believe she left that house alive," Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said.

Searchers found Watson's body in a swampy area behind a storage shed at about 10:30 a.m., Fitzpatrick said. It was covered with debris but had not been buried, he said.

More than 100 law enforcement officers had combed the woods Saturday, covering more than 1,200 acres, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office. They were led to the area, which is north of Syracuse, by tracing call records from Watson's cell phone.

Watson's former boyfriend, 21-year-old Steven Pieper, of Liverpool, N.Y., was arrested on a second-degree murder charge.

Pieper was arraigned in Clay Town Court at about 8 p.m. Saturday. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, police said, and is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center without bail.

Pieper is not a Mercyhurst College student, officials at the school said.

Watson had tried to end their on-again-off-again, 18-month relationship in early October, Fitzpatrick said.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office is scheduled to perform an autopsy today. As of late Saturday night, the cause of Watson's death had not been determined.

Mercyhurst College will hold a prayer service tonight at 8:30 at Old Main's Christ the King Chapel. A service originally scheduled for Monday night has been canceled.

"Our Mercyhurst family poured their hearts and souls into finding Jenni-Lyn in a genuine outpouring of humanity," Mercyhurst College President Tom Gamble said during a brief news conference held at Old Main on Saturday night. "Her death is devastating to our entire college community. We continue to pray for her family and extend our deepest sympathies."

The school's counseling and campus ministry staff will be available at the ministry office in the Carolyn Herrmann Student Union after today's Mass at 11 a.m. until tonight's prayer service begins.

A memorial space will be established today at Zurn Hall outside of the school's dance department for the college community to pay their respects.

"It will serve as a gathering spot for students to share their feelings and thoughts about Jenni-Lyn and about what has happened," Gamble said. "Mercyhurst is a family, and we want to make sure we're here to support our family."

Classes resume Monday for the school's nearly 2,500 undergraduate students returning from Thanksgiving break. Gamble said he expects many students, especially those who knew Watson, will likely find it difficult to focus on their schoolwork.

"This is a terrible, tragic, and heartbreaking time," the college's president added. "These are young people, and many of them have never experienced a tragedy like this. Many of them have a feeling of immortality."

Matt Tolbert, a technical assistant in Mercyhurst's dance department, was a good friend of Watson's, working with her in dance classes and shows. On Saturday night, the 23-year-old said he was in "disbelief."

Tolbert celebrated Halloween this year with Watson and several other Mercyhurst dance students, hosting a party at his house.

He said Watson came dressed wearing a white angel costume.

"Shock, sadness, heartache. I feel broken," Tolbert said Saturday. "You never get over something like this."

Baton Rouge, LA: High court upholds death penalty in church deaths

The murder convictions and death penalty for Anthony Bell, who killed four of his in-laws and his wife after bursting into a Baton Rouge church in May 2006, were upheld Tuesday by Louisiana's Supreme Court.

Bell, who the court record said was 26 at the time of the shooting, was convicted in 2008 on five counts of first-degree murder in the death of his wife Erica and four of her relatives, and one of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of her mother.

Erica Bell's relatives were shot as Sunday services were ending at the small Ministry of Jesus Christ Church, where her mother, Claudia Brown, was pastor. Bell kidnapped Erica from the church and shot her at a nearby apartment building parking lot.

Only Claudia Brown survived.

The Supreme Court rejected defense arguments that Bell was mentally retarded and could therefore not be legally executed, citing expert testimony and evidence regarding Bell's work history.

"There is nothing in the record from which it can be concluded that the jury erred in rejecting the defendant's claim of mental retardation," Tuesday's ruling by retired Judge Philip Ciaccio, who was sitting in for Justice Catherine Kimball, said.

There were no dissents in the ruling, which notes that Bell can now take his case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Milwaukee, WI: Man charged with killing woman for taking phone call during sex

A Milwaukee man was charged Tuesday with strangling a woman over the Thanksgiving weekend because she took a phone call while they were having sex.

Garron Lewis, 46, faces a single count of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Sharron D. Dorsey. 44.

According to a criminal complaint:

Dorsey was found dead Saturday afternoon in a home in the 1500 block of S. Union St. by her daughter. Dorsey's body was on a bed in the basement, clad in her underwear. Medical examiners determined she had been strangled and was dead for some time.

Later Saturday, a man told police Lewis had come to his house crying and confessed to killing Dorsey with a belt for talking to someone else while the two were in bed. Lewis then also admitted to police he had killed Dorsey after first threatening her life, the complaint says.

Vilas County, WI: Plude ordered to serve 25 years for wife's 1999 murder

A family's 11-year struggle for justice ended last Wednesday morning in a Vilas County courtroom when Doug Plude was sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing his wife, Genell.

Plude, 43, entered a guilty plea to a charge of first degree reckless homicide in September after insisting for 11 years that he had nothing to do with the mysterious death of his wife back in October 1999.

Genell Johnson Plude, 28, was found dead in her Land O' Lakes bathroom during the early morning hours of Oct. 22, 1999. Significant amounts of drugs were found in her system and unusual bruises were found on her body.

Three years later, the state convinced a Shawano County jury her husband poisoned her with migraine medicine, drowned her in the toilet bowl, and arranged the scene to look like a suicide.

The state argued Plude killed Genell, who had begun to question her sexual orientation, because she was planning to leave him. According to trial testimony, Genell's parents were set to drive to Wisconsin from Minnesota. 23, 1999, to pick up their daughter so she could start a new life in another state.

During the trial, the defense claimed Genell Plude was deeply depressed and her plan to leave her marriage was a fantasy.

Doug Plude was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of release in 20 years.

He served a little more than five years in prison before the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned his conviction in June 2008 because an expert witness exaggerated his credentials.

A second trial was set for October 2010 but Plude took a plea deal before the trial was to commence.

Last Wednesday, he again insisted that he did not kill his wife and explained that extenuating circumstances (his mother's battle with an incurable form of cancer) caused him to take the deal.

"It didn't take long for me to accept this plea bargain so I can be home for her," he said. "It's not about me and my innocence anymore. I would have loved to prove it, believe me. But she means more to me, having her alive and keeping her in remission with the once a month treatment.

Without me there, she will lose that battle and I will lose my best friend."

The state and the defense had recommended a sentence of 20 years probation (and no additional jail or prison time) but Judge Neal A. Nielsen found such a lenient sentence would "unduly depreciate" the severity of the offense and ordered Plude back to prison.

After the hearing, Vilas County District Attorney Al Moustakis said the decision to recommend probation was complex and hinged in part on a belief that Plude does not pose a threat to the public as long as he is supervised by the Department of Corrections.

Nielsen's decision to send Plude back to prison came after four hours of gut-wrenching testimony from Genell Plude's friends and relatives.

One by one, Genell Plude's aunt, uncle, cousin, siblings, parents and others shared their memories and their grief. They recalled fishing trips, camping, going out for pizza, smiles, hugs, poems, the last weekend of Genell's life, the plans they had for the future and the milestones of life both large and small she missed out on over the last decade.

"She was and still is very special to us all," said her aunt and godmother Kathy Miller. "As you can see 11 years later we are all here for her."

Each family member asked Nielsen to impose a long prison sentence.

"Judge Nielsen, please consider the absolute terror that Genny suffered at Doug's hand during the homicide," asked her uncle Lyle Miller. "We've all come to the end today of the long road to justice. Please allow me and my family the satisfaction and comfort of a fair punishment for recklessly taking the life of a wonderful person, Genell Kathleen Johnson."

Given his chance to speak, Plude admitted to being a poor husband but insisted he did not kill his wife.

"I am guilty of being a bad husband, I'm not guilty of taking my wife's life and I'll swear it until the day I die," he said. "I did contribute to the situation, not being the best husband in the world. I should have paid more attention to Genell and my marriage."

Nielsen appeared to struggle with his sentencing decision. He spoke at length about the unanswered questions that remain 11 years after Genell Plude's death and called the plea deal "inexplicable and ill-conceived.

"I don't know what happened in that bathroom, I don't know how the fioricet got into Genell Plude. I don't know the exact mechanism of death.

How were (the pills) administered? Did she take them? Did he give them to her? Was the fluid in her lungs from pulmonary edema or was it from toilet water? Does it make a difference if he was the one who administered the drugs? All of these questions are unanswerable without knowing exactly what happened," he said.

Nielsen expressed some degree of empathy for Plude's situation in regard to his mother's illness but ultimately concluded that prison was necessary in this case.

"Neither is it my role to let my personal concern for the welfare of Mr. Plude's mother dictate what the community regards as an appropriate measure of responsibility for serious criminal conduct," he said.

As he heard the sentence, Plude dropped his head and began to cry. "No," he sobbed. "My mom, my mom, she's going to die."

He was immediately led away to the Vilas County jail where he will stay until he is transferred to the prison system.

In the hallway outside the courtroom, members of the Johnson family held each other. Genell's father, Ken, said through tears that the family was too overwhelmed to put their feelings about the sentence into words.

Because this offense was committed before the state changed its sentencing guidelines, Moustakis said Plude (who was given credit for time served before his first conviction was overturned) will likely be eligible for parole a little over a year from now after he serves 25 percent of his sentence.

Rockland, ME: Man arrested in death of Friendship woman

ROCKLAND, Maine — The man who was charged Saturday with the murder of a Friendship woman was expected to make his first appearance in Rockland District Court today, according to Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Arnold Diana, 35, was arrested Saturday at about 7 p.m. after an interview conducted that afternoon at the Rockland police station. McCausland said Diana was the former boyfriend of Katrina Windred, 47, of Friendship, who disappeared after visiting Diana’s apartment on Saturday, Nov. 20.Windred’s body was discovered by a man walking his dog Tuesday, Nov. 23, on Thompson Meadow Road, which is in a rural area on the outskirts of Rockland.

McCausland said Diana and Windred, who had dated in the past, broke up about three months ago and had each moved on to new relationships. They were still regular acquaintances, said McCausland, though he declined to detail their relationship any further.

“It was not unusual for her to visit him,” said McCausland. “They were staying in contact.”

Authorities have not released the cause of Windred’s death, where it happened or how her body ended up beside a dirt road on the outskirts of Rockland. McCausland said more details about the slaying likely would be available in court documents associated with Diana’s court appearance today. McCausland said Diana was arrested after detectives, led by state police Sgt. Richard Fowler, consulted with the Maine Attorney General’s Office.

Windred, a skiing and horse enthusiast who survived three bouts with cancer, according to her obituary, was also the mother of a 9-year-old boy. After an educational career that extended from Rockland to Waitsfield, Vt., she earned a degree in human ecology from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor in 1987. She was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1983 and was involved in numerous cancer support groups since then. She also was an accomplished horse trainer, known for her ability to tame the most difficult steeds, though she had worked in writing and editing recently.

Members of Windred’s family could not be reached for comment Sunday.

According to McCausland, Diana has a criminal history and was on probation at the time of the alleged murder. According to an article on the Village Soup website, Diana was convicted of domestic violence assault in January 2009 as well as a parole violation later that year.

McCausland would not say whether Diana has confessed to the crime or what his alleged motive might have been.

“We’re just not going to get into those details,” he said.

People who live and work near the Thorndike apartments, which are located at 385 and 387 Main St. in Rockland, said the woman’s killing has caused tension in what has been a pleasant place to live and work.

Jonathan Stuart of Rockland, a cook at a restaurant in the Thorndike building, said he had seen both Diana and Windred in recent years while visiting a friend in the building. He said the first sign that something was amiss was when police detectives blocked access to trash receptacles at the rear of the building, which Stuart said they were searching.

“I’ve lived here my whole life, 22 years, and I’ve never heard of anything like this,” said Stuart, who said Diana lived on the building’s third floor. “I always figured everyone’s really cool until something like this happens.”

Eric Gregory of Rockland, who was visiting a friend on the third floor Sunday afternoon, said police detectives have been in and around the building off and on for the past few days. He said Windred was well-known in the area as a devoted mother, churchgoer and volunteer for some local social service agencies.

“She was always trying to help people,” said Gregory. “[Her killing] is just ridiculous.”

Buzzer buttons and mailboxes in the lobby indicate the apartment complex contains dozens of residences. Doors in the front and rear of the building are kept locked.

A woman walking her dog outside the complex Sunday, who declined to be identified, said there are “terrible rumors” circulating through the downtown shops about the cause and manner of Windred’s death. McCausland would not confirm or deny any of them.

A memorial service and celebration of Windred’s life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 11 at the First Unitarian Church at 345 Broadway St. in Rockland.

Bonne Terre, MO: Four dead after Missouri man kills three then self in domestic dispute

(CNN) -- A man shot and killed two women and another man Tuesday in Bonne Terre, Missouri, before killing himself with a handgun, in what local police said was a domestic dispute.

The identities of the four persons were not immediately released. Bonne Terre is about 60 miles south of St. Louis, Missouri.

Bonne Terre Police Chief Douglas Calvert said at a news conference that the man entered an apartment and shot a man in the doorway and a woman in a bedroom. A toddler, 2 or 3 years old, was found inside the house unharmed, the chief said.

The man then went to a SUV parked outside the apartment and fatally shot another woman while she was apparently protecting another toddler, Calvert said. That child also was unharmed, he said.

Responding police officers came upon the gunman running away from the apartment, authorities said.

"They advised him to drop the weapon. At that point, he took his own life," Calvert said. The suicide occurred outside, near a highway, about 300 feet from the apartment, Calvert said.

The two women and the other man were all apparently living in the same apartment, while the shooter did not reside there, Calvert said.

"There does seem to be some relationship between the victims," Calvert said. "We do believe they did know each other."

Calvert described the four adults as being in their 20s.

One child was a boy, and Calvert couldn't recall the other child's gender, he said.

Police received a call about 10 a.m. Tuesday that a subject was trying to kick down a door and a woman was screaming, authorities said.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex about a half mile from the town's high school and a middle school. All schools were on lockdown for about an hour.

Dooms, VA: Murder-suicide in Dooms

DOOMS — The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office reported that a man killed his common-law wife Monday at their home on Sandy Ridge Road in Dooms before turning the gun on himself.

Both were 47 years old, according to Investigator Brian Jenkins of the sheriff’s office. The couple had been together for about 20 years, he said.

Jenkins said a co-worker of the deceased woman became concerned Monday after she failed to show for work, and said she contacted the sheriff’s office about a welfare check.

Jenkins said the woman’s body was found on a couch inside a mobile home at 336 Sandy Ridge Road. In a chair next to the couch, authorities found the body of her partner.

“The investigation revealed she was asleep on the couch and he shot her once. Then he utilized the weapon on himself,” Jenkins said.

Both were shot in the head with a rifle.

The unidentified man and woman were last seen alive late Saturday night. Jenkins said authorities had not been called to the home in the past for any domestic problems, but said the investigation into the murder-suicide revealed the couple was “going through some issues.”

The sheriff’s office has refused to release the name of the alleged shooter.

“We don’t release suicide names,” said Capt. Hanger.

Both bodies have been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for autopsies

Springfield, OR: Murder victim’s sister thanks Good Samaritan

Springfield (KMTR) - Murder charges have been filed against a man who police say killed his ex-girlfriend. Family members say the couple had recently broken up, but remained friends.

Robert Boyd appeared in court Monday to hear the formal charges. Lane County prosecutors say Boyd killed 18-year-old Allyson Archibald on a Springfield street early Sunday morning. A passerby called police after seeing a man and woman fighting in the 400-block of Fairview Drive. When officers arrived, Archibald was unconscious. She died at the scene. Police arrested Boyd a short time later.

At 18, Ally Archibald was a young single mother. Her 6-month-old baby boy had already lost his father who was killed in a train accident in June. Now, his mother has been murdered.

Relatives describe Ally as fun, happy and strong; she loved to dance. And they say Allyson was so proud of her baby, whom she named ElyJah.

This is a tough time for the family, Allyson’s sister Sierra says the family is grateful to the witness who reported the crime, and then stayed with Ally until paramedics arrived.

“I just want to say thank you that she wasn't by herself, that she didn’t have to die alone, that she had someone there,” said Sierra Archibald. “And thank you for being such a Good Samaritan … they still exist, and people don’t think that they do, but they do. And thanks.”

Before her death, Ally had re-enrolled in high school and was trying to get her diploma.

The family is now reaching out to the community for help. A memorial fund has been set up at Umpqua Bank. Donations will help the family care for baby ElyJah and pay for Ally Archibald's funeral expenses.

Charlotte County, FL: Scott Huss on trial for Russian wife's murder

CHARLOTTE COUNTY: Opening statements began Monday in the trial of 48-year-old Scott Huss, who is accused of stabbing and killing his Russian-born wife 31-year-old Yana Huss in front of her son April 25, 2007.

Scott and Yana met online and married in 2003. Yana had a son, Peter, from a previous marriage, and the couple had a daughter, Katrina.

As the marriage deteriorated, there were several calls to Charlotte County deputies for domestic violence incidents.

April 11, 2007, Yana filed for divorce.

Barbara Demis, who went to church with Yana and the kids, testified that on Sunday, April 22, Scott went to church looking for Yana. Demis told him to leave and called the police.

Yana stayed at the shelter since Scott was looking for her.

A worker from the shelter testified Yana stayed there for several days before her death because she was scared of Scott. She even stayed there the night before her death.

Joyce Huss, Scott's mother, also testified. She said she went to Punta Gorda to help Scott find an apartment because Yana had a restraining against him. Joyce said she tried to have Yana evicted from her home.

Scott is facing second degree murder charges.

BACKGROUND- OPENING STATEMENTS
According to prosecutors, on April 25th, Yana left Katrina with a babysitter while she and Peter went to the house. They had pets and other belongings there.

When they arrived, Scott showed up and told Peter to go into the bathroom and not to come out. Scott had a gun and knife in his hand, prosecutors said.

In the laundry room, Scott stabbed Yana 11 times and her throat was cut, prosecutors said.

While this happened, Peter heard his mom scream and witnessed some of the attack, the prosecution said. Scott and Peter left the house, leaving bloody footprints leading to the car.

Scott drove to Longwood, Florida to his mother's house. He left Peter in the street in front of his mother's house with a suitcase, prosecutors said.

Joyce Huss thought it was odd that Scott just dropped Peter off.

Joyce testified that on April 25th, she knew Peter was outside of her house because she heard her dogs barking. Then, she saw him standing on the sidewalk.

When she got close to Peter she saw blood on his shirt. Prosecutors say that blood matches Yana's DNA.

Joyce went to the store and bought Peter clothes. When she opened his suitcase she found a letter from Scott. Joyce and Scott's brother Michael called deputies.

A well being check was conducted at the Rickover Street home and Yana's body was found around 3 or 4 p.m.

Around 11 p.m., Scott was located in Tallahassee near the Beer Barn. He had a bank bag with $2900 inside and a bus ticket to Dallas in another name, prosecutors said.

Inside his motel room, they found a police scanner, hair color kit, a watch with blood matching Yana's DNA, and in the car they found Yana's purse.

The defense claims Scott loved his wife despite the false allegations of abuse she made against him. He met Yana on a Russian dating website and traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia.

Yana received a Visa to come to the US to marry Scott and brought Peter with her. The defense said Yana's first husband was killed by the Russian mafia.

The defense said Yana disappeared for days on end and Scott even found her at a motel in Miami with her former boyfriend in 2003. Scott claims the men with Yana had dark SUVs.

The defense said Yana was part of a "green card" operation and the Russian mafia murdered her because she was reluctant to file for divorce.

The defense said Scott received a prepaid cell phone from Yana the day before her murder. She called him on that phone the day of her murder and was scared. When Scott went to the house to check to on her, he found two dark SUVs at the house. Inside the house, he found her body in the laundry room, according to the defense.

The defense claims Scott was afraid of the Russian Mafia so he took Peter to his mother's house in Longwood and he fled to Tallahassee.

Palm Beach, FL: Suburban Belle Glade man charged with murder in girlfriend's stabbing death

Although they'd only been together about a year, Antonio Senda Wrencher and Cassandra Hendrix Daly had had a stormy life together.

More than once, a Palm Beach County Sheriff's report says, Daly had called deputies to the couple's suburban Belle Glade home.

In an October visit, she told deputies she was moving out and "will never come back." But she didn't leave.

And last Wednesday, Daly alleged Wrencher threw hot grits in her face.

One day later, early on Thanksgiving Day, the report said, Wrencher stabbed Daly repeatedly in the middle of the street, then calmly told a witness, "Call the police. I just killed her."

Wrencher, 40, is in the Palm Beach County Jail, charged with felony murder. He's being held without bond.

According to the report, deputies came to the 500 block of Southwest Sixth Street, about a half mile from the couple's apartment, and found Wrencher standing over Daly, holding a knife.

He told the deputies he'd just stabbed Daly and directed them to take him to jail, the report said.

It said Daly, 37, died of numerous stabs to the neck and upper chest; she also had defense wounds on her forearms and wrist.

Wrencher later said he had been leaving a bar with Daly but grew upset because she did not want to go.

He said the two were walking home when he "snapped" and began to stab her.

"I killed her and I'm not saying anything more," he told deputies.

The report said that, the day before the slaying, Daly had reported Wrencher had thrown grits in her face; when deputies had arrived for that incident, they could not find Wrencher, and had turned the incident over to the Palm Beach County State Attorney.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's records show that, in the Oct. 18 incident, the deputy urge both Wrencher and Daly to "find professional help or separate because if someone were to get hurt, either party could be arrested. They both agreed to go their separate ways."

Records show Wrencher was arrested in 2000 on a domestic battery charge and also was arrested in 2003 and twice in 2009 for failing to appear in court.

Dallas, TX: Gunman In Shootout Killed Himself

(KERA) - Dallas Police say a man who went on a shooting spree, wounding an officer Sunday night, did NOT die in a shootout with police. He killed himself. KERA's BJ Austin reports.

Dallas Police say at least eight rounds from a rifle hit Officer Richard Whitt's squad car as he responded to a call of gunfire at a Pleasant Grove apartment complex. Whitt was hit and seriously wounded.

A bystander was also struck. The gunman, 31 year old Kenneth Michael Horton fired at least 36 rounds at the complex on North Prairie Creek Road - where his estranged girlfriend lives. Officer Whitt's partner returned fire. Additional officers found the suspect on the apartment grounds, dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

The Medical Examiner ruled it self-inflicted. Investigators say Horton had a rifle, a pistol and multiple ammunition clips when they found him. Police Chief David Brown says he's proud of the quick response and actions of officers on the scene.

Volusia County, FL: UPDATE: Victims identified in double murder-suicide

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has identified the victims of a double murder-suicide that took place at a home south of Deltona Monday morning.

The Sheriff's Office believes 39-year-old Carlos Negron shot his estranged wife, 41-year-old Lara Negron, her 73-year-old father, Philip Spinney, then himself.

Deputies received a 911 call at 8:13 a.m. from a neighbor who reported hearing gunfire while she was out walking her dog.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found three dead bodies on the back porch of the home on Sunset Road in Stone Island.

The Negrons' daughter was also found inside the house at the time of the shootings.

She was not injured, and is currently in the care of the Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Columbus, OH: Columbus man charged with killing family

Columbus, OH - A Columbus woman, her 10 year old daughter and 2 year old son were found stabbed to death in their North Side Columbus apartment shortly before noon on Friday. The father of the 2 year old was also stabbed several times but was found alive.

Tia Hendricks, Tahlia Hendricks and Tyron Montgomery were stabbed to death, allegedly by Tyron's father, Caron Montgomery, who has been charged with 3 counts of murder.

Montgomery was taken from the scene to Riverside Methodist Hospital where he was upgraded from critical condition to stable. He has since been taken to the Franklin County Jail, after his arrest Saturday.

Montgomery reportedly has a history of violence and has been involved with Hendricks in an "on again - off again" relationship for several years.

"I'm glad he didn't kill himself," Hendricks' aunt, Anita Hayes, said Saturday. "Dying would have been too easy for him. He needs to live every day through this because we will. Thanksgiving will never be the same for us again."

No reason has been given for this senseless act.

Satellite Beach, FL: Police: Brevard Man Opens Fire On Family

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. -- Two people were killed and two more remain hospitalized after a man opened fire on his own family Sunday night, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Police in Satellite Beach said the gunman is among the dead. The two injured family members are being treated at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Brevard County.

Police

Thomas Harold Field said he left his Satellite Beach home just an hour before he opened fire on his family.

"I believe he was mentally disturbed anyway," Field said. "He had a great deal of anger. When things didn't go is way, he would almost explode."

Police said Gabriel Field shot his live-in girlfriend, her mother and his own mother at their home on Grant Avenue at about 6:30 p.m.

Police said they entered the home through an unlocked front door while the gunman was still firing.

"Our officer returned the fire," Satellite Beach Police Chief Lionel Cote said.

Both the shooter and his girlfriend were killed.

Police said Field's 1-month-old daughter was also in the home at the time of the shooting and was not hurt.

The shooter's father said his son had been in and out of juvenile detention centers and prisons. He said he was always afraid something like this would happen.

"His ambition was to have a big shootout with the police. He got his wish, I think," Field said.

Memphis, TN: Boyfriend of Missing Woman Charged With Her Murder

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The boyfriend of a missing Memphis woman has been charged with her murder. Police have finally identified the body of Jacklyn Miller, her family says police have contacted them about his charges but have yet to contact them about her death.

Initially Richard Dickerson was booked on first degree murder charges. FOX13 was at the homicide division at MPD around 3:30 on Friday. That's when investigators officially charged and down graded those charges to second degree murder.

Friends of 21-year old Jacklyn Miller are outraged at the lesser charge of Second Degree Murder for her ex-boyfriend Richard Dickerson.

"He should get death. If you take a life, i feel your life should be taken," said Asha Jones, one of Miller’s co-workers.

Miller was found dead Tuesday in the back of her car trunk at the Willow Creek Apartments near Winchester. She'd been missing a week. The cause said to be strangulation.

"They be fighting. She's not the type of person that would let him fight her. She would fight back. I can imagine with whatever happened, she didn't go down without a fight," said Myesha Cooper, another co-worker.

Back in March, she filed a restraining order against Dickerson. Friends and family say the relationship had become abusive.

"She came in the other day with scratches on her face and we said you need to leave him alone," said Cooper. "She had scratches from her jaw bone to her nose."

Not only did Myesha Cooper know Miller, she also knows Richard Dickerson.

"We all went to school together. Beauty school. It was New Wave at the time. That's where they met and he didn't come across as the type of person that would do something like that."

Family by phone Friday told FOX13, police informed them about the new charges, but still have not told the family that it's her. Until that happens they say they're hoping she'll come walking through the door. Meanwhile, still a somber mood, at the beauty supply where she worked for over a year.

"Jackie was lively. We laughed, we talked. It's not the same. People had stopped coming to work," said Cooper.

"It's just sad. He deserves what he's going to get," said Jones.

Eau Claire, WI: Man arrested for murdering girlfriend last week

A man is in jail, charged with murdering his girlfriend after investigators say he beat her to death last week.

Randolph Melsness, 51, is being held on half a million dollar bond in the Eau Claire County Jail. Deputies arrested him Tuesday night after investigators say he fired shots in his mother's home, prompting his brother to call police. A search for weapons led deputies to his girlfriend's body.

“I’ve known Randy since we were kids. We grew up together, went to grade school together, junior high, high school,” says Tim Small.

Small grew up just across the road from Melsness's mother's Cameron St. home just outside of Eau Claire city limits.

“I'm shocked for words because he didn't ever hurt anything. You know. I don't know what happened,” Small says.

Investigators say Melsness was staying with his girlfriend, 51-year-old Renee Maki, in a camper in the backyard of his mother’s place. They say that's where Melsness beat her to death.

"It sounded like finances were difficult for both. He had a place to stay. After Friday, we found out, he was spending most of the nights on a sofa in the house," says Eau Claire County Sheriff Ron Cramer.

Cramer says it appears Maki was killed last Thursday or Friday. Prosecutors say Tuesday night, Melsness told a detective the two got into a fight and he punched Maki, knocked her to the ground and kicked her in the head every time she tried to get up. Melsness said he left the camper after the beating and never went back.

"I talked to some people who have known her a number of years. They thought something like this would eventually happen. She didn't always find the right kind of person," says Cramer calling the murder a tragic example of domestic violence.

Small describes Melsness as a hard-worker and says he was a roofer.

Sheriff Cramer says Melsness’s mother and brother had no idea there was a body on the property or that he was in any kind of trouble. After deputies arrested Melsness for the shooting Tuesday night, it was his family who requested they search the property for more guns. The sheriff says they were fearful Melsness would be angry when he got home and afraid for their lives.

Melsness is also charged with possession of a firearm while intoxicated for Tuesday night's shooting. His family did not want to comment Wednesday night.

Queens, NY: Woman found on beach was beaten so severely, it looked like a shooting: police sources

A Queens mom found dead on Rockaway Beach was beaten so severely, cops initially thought she had been shot, police sources said Wednesday.

Althea Lewis and her boyfriend, David Lynch, were arguing during an early morning dip. Prosecutors said Lewis, 45, was beaten, bitten and then suspended by her legs as her beau of only three weeks submerged her in the ocean.

"He loses his mind," a police source said. "He beat her so bad that at first we thought she was shot - she's got four holes in her face, indentations."

Lynch, a member of the National Guard and an Iraq War vet, left the crime scene and police pulled him over on Far Rockaway Blvd. for driving erratically. He led police to his girlfriend's body a few blocks away, later claiming she committed suicide.

The evidence on her body spoke to the contrary.

The couple went into the ocean to fool around, sources said. The tryst turned violent when Lewis slapped Lynch because he wouldn't let her get out of the water. That's when he beat her repeatedly, the sources said. The medical examiner ruled the case a homicide, citing the beating and drowning as causes of death.

Lynch was awaiting arraignment on a second-degree murder charge on Wednesday night and faces 25 years to life in jail if convicted.

Relatives said Lynch did three tours in Iraq before enlisting in the National Guard in 2008, and was studying criminal justice at La Guardia College. The suspect's brother, Brian Lynch, 40, of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, described the accused killer as hot-headed.

"I told my brother numerous times, because he did have anger issues, that he should see somebody," Brian Lynch said.

Lewis' grief-stricken relatives refused to comment at the family's Rosedale home.

Friends said the victim had a 20-year-old daughter and a young son.

"She was a very beautiful person and a great friend," said the victim's friend Blaine Ested, 39. "I can't believe this. It doesn't make sense."
