A woman was found dead Friday at her home on Oak Forest Drive, the apparent victim of a homicide.
Escambia County deputies are investigating the death of Gloria Strickland, 57.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Ted Roy said deputies responded to the 7800 block of Oak Forest Drive for what initially was a cardiac arrest call about 6:30 a.m.
Strickland's son, Kamau Kiniun, 30, found his mother's body in her bedroom of her home off Olive Road.
Kiniun, who lived with Strickland, said he realized something was wrong when he saw her car in the driveway Friday morning.
Strickland, who has worked as a chemical operator at Ascend Performance Materials for 20 years, should already have left for work, Kiniun said.
"I knocked on her door, she didn't answer and the rest is obvious," he said.
Roy said investigators will not release the cause of death at this time, but there were "obvious signs of foul play." And he could not discuss whether any suspects had been taken in for questioning.
But Kiniun said the person who shot his mother is a man she briefly dated.
Strickland filed for a protective order against the man on Tuesday, according to court records. The two were scheduled to appear before Circuit Judge Michael Jones on Wednesday for a domestic violence hearing.
Kelsey Dunham, 21, who lives around the corner from Strickland's home, said domestic disturbances and burglaries in the area are not uncommon.
"It's scary when this happens in your neighborhood," she said.

gloria husband who live here in san antonio texas by the name of ronald a. strickland should be looked at since he is saying the killing was due to money in oversea account and that her son knew she had was the reason for her death.Mr. Ronald Strickland has a lot of alas names and moves around. He now is the person who will receive her life insurance. He claim he didn't know he was still married to her since no contact has been made in years with her and their son. This man I feel could be involve in her death.He also says he is in contact with son that is on the move since the police is looking for him. The son KINUIN know as Shautel Srtickland is to be in the Atlanta area with family like the older son name Ronald Strickland other bother Rod Strickland who is the assistant coach at Univ. of Kentucky. Mr Ronald Strickland is trying to get a passport to Jamaica to get millions that gloria was keeping for him this what he says. He is saying this is why she was murder because the son had talked about this money and that gloria was using some of the funds from this account and made several trips tp Jamaica to get funds.This man has so many lies and work with cash most of the times and rent cars under other person name like Mary Randle for years. This is another woman who name is being use in several tranactions like at car rental and banks and he will receive her life insurance and she has no family. This man also prey on women who has low self-esteem, sick and not connected to family or friends. I had to listen to all the different issues he has or want me to believe. I feel he has something to do with her murder and the police should be looking at him and where was he at at the time of the murder. This information has been heavy on my heart and want to clear my spirit by giving this information to you.This may be just my intuition mind. I attend college for Criminal Justice and now these issues just don't add up when it come to Mr. Ronald Strickland. He is someone i have know for years and has questioned all issues he talk about from the beginnig and he could never answer the questions. It always turn into a arguement.
