SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Springfield police say that a 33-year-old man has confessed to strangling his 45-year-old ex-girlfriend, adding that he tried to make it appear it was a suicide.
The Eugene Register-Guard reports that Antonio Huerta Cruz was arrested Thursday at a Burger King after police determined he was a suspect. He was arraigned Friday in Lane County Circuit Court on a felony murder charge of Teresa Sandoval.
Court documents say Cruz told investigators that he went to Sandoval's mobile home earlier in the week with the "intent to kill her." Police described Cruz as a frustrated former boyfriend.
Police say Cruz strangled Sandoval, then made it appear that she hung herself.
Sandoval had five children. She was found dead Tuesday.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
