Connecticut: Victims of Domestic Violence

July 17, 2010
June 29, 2009: Alice Morrin, 43, was shot and killed by her husband, James Morrin, 45, who then killed himself. Alice Morrin had filed for divorce two months ealier.

Aug. 15, 2009: Gumersinda Velez, 38, was killed outside of her Bridgeport home after arguing with her former boyfriend, Henry Torres, 32, according to police. Velez's 19-year-old daughter was wounded in the incident. Torres later killed himself.

Aug. 17, 2009: Gina Lacouture, 23, of West Hartford, stabbed to death by her husband, Jose Lacouture, 32. According to police records, Jose Lacouture confessed to the crime. A protective order had been in place since July 2008, when Jose Lacotoure was arrested on charges he assaulted his wife.
Dec. 30, 2009: Amanda Dobrzanski, 20, found stabbed to death in her Greenwich home. Police charged her father, Adam Dobrzanski, 55, with the murder. Adam Dobrzanski's wife, Renata Dobrzanski, who was traveling at the time of the murder, had filed for divorce on Dec. 17.

Jan. 12, 2010: Patti Rothermel-Dore, 48, shot to death inside her Bridgeport home. Prosecutors allege her husband, Frank Dore, 57, killed her. The day before, Patti Rothermel-Dore had started divorce proceedings.

Jan. 17, 2010: Shengyl Rasim, 25, of West Haven, and her husband, Selami Ozdemire, were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Rasim had a protective order against her husband, who had been charged with domestic violence.

Feb. 4 or 5, 2010: Dia Palafox, 30, stabbed to death at her New Britain home. Police charged her husband, Juan Palafox, 32. Dia Palafox had filed for a restraining order against her husband eight days before the murder.

Feb. 25, 2010: Bonnie MacKay Belanger, 51, stabbed to death at her home in Chester. Police arrested her estranged husband, John Belanger, 49. MacKay Belanger had filed for divorce on Dec. 8, 2009, and there was a protective order against John Belanger at the time of the incident.

March 3, 2010: Barbara Hamburg, 48, of Madison, was beaten and stabbed to death. Police suspect her ex-husband, Jeffrey Hamburg, 61. The two were divorced in 2005, but had been back to family court since then on child support, alimony and other issues.

March 7, 2010: The body of Madeline Brisson was found stuffed in a freezer in her Groton home. Brisson's boyfriend, Luis Otero, 49, killed her because she told him she had slept with his mentally challenged daughter, according to the arrest warrant.

April 15, 2010: Melissa O'Connor, 23, of Killingly, was charged with the murder of her 20-month-old son, Bryce O'Connor.

April 29, 2010: Allison Owen, 18, of Windsor, stabbed in a bank parking lot by her ex-boyfriend, Marqz Robotham, also 18, of Windsor. Their live-in relationship had recently ended, according to police.

May 10, 2010: Thomas Vanacore, 73, of North Haven, killed his wife, Joan Vanacore, 70, in a murder-suicide. Neighbors said Thomas Vanacore had late-stage throat cancer and Joan Vanacore had Alzheimer's disease. The youngest of the couple's six children, Edward Vanacore, died in the attacks at the World Trade Center.

May 17, 2010: Cynthia Cannon, 35, of Wolcott, found dead under a tarp in a Cheshire industrial park after suffering head injuries and stab wounds to the chest. Police charged Cannon's husband, Patrick Cannon, with her murder. The two had been talking about divorcing.

June 14, 2010: Enid Dickens, 57, of Norwalk, and her mother, Rona Knight, 73, were shot and killed by Dickens' ex-husband, Gilbert "Tony" Orlando, 56, after an argument over Dickens changing the locks to the house.
