HOUMA, LA (WAFB) - A 41-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the disappearance and death of his wife.

According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, the body of Kristi Verrett, 38, was found Sunday evening in a marshy area of the 2200 block of Savanne Road in Houma.

It was discovered around 6:40 p.m.

Bernard Verrett was picked up by deputies shortly after.

Detectives said he is considered a suspect in the case.

Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois said deputies responded to a "welfare concern" call Saturday evening in the 100 block of Marcello Court.

They showed up around 6:30 p.m. and a 19-year-old man told them he had not heard from his mother since 3 a.m.

According to the son, the couple left home early that morning after an argument.

He told investigators his father later returned, but not his mother.

The investigation continues.
