DUNN - A Triton High School student has been indicted today on a charge of killing his girlfriend.
A Harnett County grand jury returned a true bill of indictment this morning charging 18-year-old Dillon Tart with second-degree murder.
Tart was driving a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle that slammed into a wall of the Walmart at 590 E. Jackson Blvd. on June 4, according to Dunn police investigators.
Tart's 16-year-old girlfriend, Ashley K. Moore of Coats, was killed.
Dunn police Capt. Jimmy Pope said officers were expecting Tart to turn himself in today at the Police Department.
Several witnesses told police after the crash that it appeared Tart and his girlfriend were arguing just before the wreck.
The N.C. Highway Patrol was called in to recreate the crash, as the SUV appeared to be speeding through the parking lot.
Police have not commented on the details of the investigation.
