Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Allegheny County police were investigating what may have been an attempted murder-suicide in which a woman was critically wounded and her boyfriend died early Tuesday.
Investigators said John Kohan, 53, and the 57-year-old woman, whose name was not released, were shot inside a house in the 4600 block of Sylvan Drive in Hampton. The woman, who was shot in the face, was in critical condition at a hospital, police said.
The county medical examiner's office said an autopsy would be conducted before investigators could determine the manner of Mr. Kohan's death, but preliminary indications pointed to a suicide.
County emergency dispatchers said they received a call about the shootings at 4 a.m.
Neighbors in the area know little about the couple. They said Mr. Kohan and his girlfriend were relatively quiet.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
