Blanchard man has pleaded no contest to first-degree murder and shooting with intent to kill and guilty to a robbery attempt.

A Blanchard man pleaded no contest Wednesday to first-degree murder in the unusual case where his ex-wife was killed when the two tried to rob a bank.
Samuel Booth Lewis, 57, also pleaded no contest to shooting at a security guard with intent to kill. He pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery. A judge set sentencing for Aug. 10 in Oklahoma County District Court.
Samuel Lewis was shot in the chest during a July 18 shoot-out with a security guard as he and his ex-wife attempted to rob the MidFirst Bank, 2225 N May Ave. in Oklahoma City. His ex-wife, Barbara Payton Lewis, 56, was killed.
A prosecutor said Barbara Lewis had problems with methamphetamine. After his capture, Samuel Lewis told the FBI his ex-wife had done other robberies, the prosecutor said.
Samuel and Barbara Lewis divorced in 1986 but had gotten back together.
The prosecutor said Samuel Lewis fired seven times at the security guard. The guard, James Shepherd, was cut by flying glass during the shootout. A defense attorney said Samuel Lewis was trying to get the guard to stop shooting at Barbara Lewis.
