JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — A 3-month-old boy allegedly pushed out of a third-floor window along with his mother, who was also critically injured, died Tuesday, authorites said.
Hudson County prosecutors have charged the woman's ex-boyfriend in the attack.
Authorities have said Frederico Bruno, 19, let himself into the woman's Jersey City apartment and attacked her and another woman when they got home early Friday. They said he repeatedly stabbed both women and then pushed his ex-girlfriend into an air conditioner, causing her and the infant to go through a window and fall three stories.
The woman landed on top of the child.
Bruno then climbed down the apartment's fire escape, authorities said, and started beating the woman again, this time using a table he found in the backyard. He later was found hiding in a refrigerator in a vacant apartment in Belleville, about a 45-minute drive away, and was arrested.
Bruno will likely face upgraded charges following an autopsy Wednesday, Hudson County prosecutors said. He already faces 17 counts, including attempted murder and child abuse, in the assault on the boy, Damien, and his mother.
The woman, whose name has not been made public, was in stable but critical condition, in a medically induced coma, authorities said.
Bruno hasn't been arraigned and it was unclear if he had an attorney. There was no listed telephone number for him.
The other woman stabbed in the attacked was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries, but has since been released.
