A day after deputies were called to a Richland County woman’s home by a concerned family member, her body was found on her front lawn. A man described by authorities as the woman’s boyfriend, Marcus Bailey, 27, was arrested and charged with murder, Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Curtis Wilson said Thursday night.
A neighbor discovered the body of the woman around 7 a.m. Thursday in front of her home in the 600 block of Heron Glen in the Lake Shore subdivision. The neighborhood is south of the intersection of Farrow Road and Killian Road, in northeast Richland County.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said an autopsy would be performed Friday morning to determine cause of death but it appears she had been dead “a couple of days” when her body was found.
The victim’s identity has not been released but she was 25 or 26 years old and not the missing teen-ager Gabrielle Swainson, deputies confirmed Thursday morning when announcing the body's discovery.
News of Bailey's arrest was released just before 9 p.m. Thursday.
Deputies were canvassing the area for more information and potential witnesses, and speaking to family members on Thursday.
Bailey was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Thursday night.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
